Emulsion
A series of process-driven works originating in the physical breakdown of vintage silver gelatin prints when immersed in water for a varying period of time. When the emulsion loosens and the original image disintegrates, the photos are extracted from the dish of water and left to dry. They are then scanned at high resolution, the dissolved emulsion forming “snowflakes” that detach themselves and obscure the original image to a greater or lesser degree, resulting in compositions that are entirely abstract or that retain some representational features. The analogical image becomes digital and the postcard-size silver gelatin print is enlarged to provide the final image.
